On the Bike – Our adventure was a tour run by Bike Barn Buffalo Bayou Rentals at 105 Sabine Street. The Downtown Historical Tour takes 2-3 hours and is about 7 miles in length. Pace is very comfortable and the terrain is mostly flat. Lots of stops to talk about the history of the city and how the city was formed and then grew to become the third largest city in the United States.

The tour started at 11:00 and included a stop for lunch around 2:00. The market that we stopped at had just about anything you might want to try, although we passed on the Baby Octopus Salad (maybe next time!).

Peter was our tour guide, and did an excellent job. All the guys at the shop did an awesome job preparing the Electra Townie rental bikes (what a comfortable cruiser), and you can also bring your own bike for a reduced tour price. Bikes were in good condition and all components worked without fail. Very little interaction with traffic.

Kudos to Houston for their bike paths and bike lanes. We would recommend this ride to anyone (young or old) who is comfortable on a bike.

Not into tours? Buffalo Bayou trail head on Sabine Street will take you out on trails in both directions for a total of 15 miles.
